Join ancient trails which have been in use for centuries as travellers have made their way from China and Tibet over the Indian Himalaya to the trading bazaars of India.
Cross the mighty Indian Himalaya by road, to deep within the isolated Kingdom of Ladakh to meet the trekking ponies. The odyssey is of a remote Buddhist land and its wildlife, as you seek the kyang, ibex, marmot, bharal, eagle and the elusive snow leopard’s lair high on a mountain face.

Walk over four 5000m wilderness passes, trekking through weathered gorges and over the high edges of the Tibetan Plateau. Virtually an untrekked land, the main signs of human habitation will be nomadic herdspeople tending flocks while making their annual pilgrimage return to winter villages. Additional:  Visit the Nubra Valley north of Leh and from Delhi visit Agra & Rajasthan.

A far-reaching remote road safari, with two optional treks, will take you from Delhi to Himachal Pradesh and across the Indian Himalaya to the dramatic wilderness of Ladakh, to experience vastly different cultures, architecture, landscape and people.

Mountain train travel is your introduction to this fascinating land of colourful images and dreams. The Himalaya Foothills follow, rising from the plains with wooded slopes and noticeably cooler temperatures.

The Manali-Leh Road is the highest average altitude road in the world. It takes you Trans-Himalaya, crossing five mountain passes at altitudes up to 5,350 metres, to the edges of the Tibetan Plateau and to Leh in the Indus Valley. The harsher lifestyle of the Kingdom of Ladakh with its’ remote landscape, high mountain ranges, bright cultivated patches, deep gorges and fast flowing rivers beckons.

Around Leh, known as ‘Little Tibet,’ are Buddhist Gompas, Leh Palace and Tibetan Refugee Colonies. All this plus the fun of bargaining at the bazaar for old carpets, jewellery and artifacts generates feelings of antiquity.

Additional:  Visit the Nubra Valley north of Leh and from Delhi visit Agra & Rajasthan.
